Salt/Saline Removal
SPMU REMOVAL
If you’ve had a Semi Permanent Makeup treatment done and you’re no longer happy with it, there are two main methods of removal to consider.
• LASER REMOVAL
• SALT/SALINE REMOVAL
We offer Salt/Saline removal, a gentle yet effective form of removal.
SALT/SALINE REMOVAL
This lightening/removal technique is a natural and safe process. It is effective on SPMU brows and lips, it is not suitable for SPMU eyeliner or traditional tattoos.
It is a fast healing treatment that incurs minimal scarring unlike other methods. The technique is equally as effective on all pigment colours and is suitable for all skin types.
THE TREATMENT
The treatment is similar to having a SPMU procedure.
A salt/saline solution is needled into the area of colour that needs to be remove. Once the skin is broken and the solution is pushed into the skin, a salt paste is placed onto the outermost layers of the skin. The salt solution will begin to draw the ink/pigment to the surface of the skin through a process called Osmosis. In more basic terms, the salt/saline solutions draws the unwanted pigment from the skin enabling it to leave the skin through the scabbing process. You will barely notice this happening.
THE BENEFITS OF SALT/SALINE REMOVAL
Salt/saline removal is gentle in the skin. There’s less risk of scarring and hyper/hypopigmentation compared to laser removal.
The healing process is less aggressive, there is less blistering or redness compared laser removal.
The salt/saline method is not colour selective and is therefore equally as effective on all SPMU ink colours.
Hair growth will not be affected.
This technique is safe for all skin types so if you have darker skin, this is the preferred method of removal.
LASER TATTOO REMOVAL
Laser removal can be expensive.
Laser removal can lead to pigment discolouration and some colours don’t fade as well as others.
If you have a darker skin tone, a suntan or have a fake tan, laser removal is not recommended.
WHAT TO EXPECT
At your consultation we will discuss the area in which to be treated, your medical history, your expectations and what we hope to achieve. This will be your opportunity to ask any questions or raise any concerns. You should feel knowledgeable and confident before we proceed with treatment.
We will discuss costings and your treatment plan so you are aware of an approximate overall cost.
TREATMENT DURATION
You will usually be required to attend multiple sessions for best results. Smaller, lighter or faded SPMU could require as little as 1-3 sessions for removal whereas, larger or deeper SPMU is likely require more sessions.
After each session the treated area will require sufficient time to heal, therefor each session will be based at least 4 weeks apart and no less.
TREATMENT PLAN
Each session typically takes between 30-45 minutes dependant on the size, shape and depth of the area to be treated.
AFTERCARE
The overall success of your treatment is important and your aftercare will play a large part in the process. Your commitment to your aftercare is key, it is your responsibility to follow all advice given. You will be given aftercare advice verbally at your appointment and you will also be give a written copy to take home to enable you to follow the instructions to the letter. By doing this the treated area should heal neatly and safely.
The treated area is likely to be slightly pink/red for a day or so after treatment. You may also experience tenderness and some mild swelling. This is completely normal and no cause for concern. These symptoms should subside within a day or two.
The healing process will take place over the next 1-2 weeks. You will see a light, flakey layer over the treated area. You must not be tempted to pick or rub at this layer, this is your body healing, you should let this process take place naturally, this layer should just fall away through the exfoliation process within the 1-2 week time frame. During the following weeks, you should see the tattoo begin to lighten and fade away.
OUTCOME
You should be realistic in your expectations. Large, complex or deeper SPMU can be difficult to remove completely and in some instances may not be possible. With all forms of removal results cannot be guaranteed. We can only advise likely outcomes on a case by case basis which will be discussed at consultation.
